Dear Colleagues,
It is a great honor to welcome you to MEDINFO 2027 in the dynamic city of Dubai, United Arab Emirates. This year's conference brings together our global community under the theme "Reengineering Informatics & Digital Health in the Age of AI." Together, we will explore how the reengineering of health information systems and the responsible integration of artificial intelligence can transform care delivery, strengthen health systems, and improve outcomes worldwide. This edition marks a historic milestone for our community: for the first time, MEDINFO comes to the MENAHIA region — the Middle East and North African Health Informatics Association's home region — opening the door to new perspectives, new voices, and new forms of collaboration in biomedical and health informatics.

Welcome Message from the Congress Chair — MEDINFO 2027
Dear IMIA members and medical informatics enthusiasts,
It is my great privilege to welcome you to MEDINFO 2027, the 21st World Congress on Medical and Health Informatics of the International Medical Informatics Association (IMIA) — hosted, for the very first time, in the Middle East, here in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, from 29 August to 2 September 2027.
Since the first MedInfo congress in 1974, this gathering has travelled the world as the flagship meeting of our global community. To welcome it to the Middle East for the first time in more than half a century is a profound honour — and, above all, an invitation. It is a chance to bring many new faces, institutions, and voices from across our region into the worldwide family of health and medical informatics, and to introduce our global colleagues to the remarkable community that has grown here.
Our theme this year — "Re-Engineering Informatics and Digital Health in the Age of AI" — speaks directly to the moment we are living through. Artificial intelligence is transforming how we deliver care, generate knowledge, and serve patients, while raising urgent questions about how we adopt these technologies responsibly, safely, and ethically. Across six scientific tracks — including a dedicated track on emerging and agentic AI — MEDINFO 2027 will convene the research, the debate, and the practical wisdom our field needs to answer those questions together.
I warmly encourage you to join us in person. There is no substitute for being in the room: for the conversations between sessions, the collaborations sparked over coffee, and the friendships that outlast any single congress. I invite you to contribute your scientific papers and your ideas, and to take part fully in the workshops, panels, exhibitions, and side activities that make MedInfo far more than a programme of presentations and scientific papers.
Beyond the science, you will experience the warmth, generosity, and hospitality for which the UAE and the wider GCC region are known. It will be our honour to host you — and to share with you a region writing an ambitious new chapter in digital health.
